About

Started in 2018 and inspired by our ray of sunshine, Olivia Rae, the Sun Rae Foundation supports pediatric patients on extended hospital admissions.

Even with exceptional care in a supremely supportive environment, an extended hospital admission can produce ever increasing stress, fatigue, and frustration.  Groups within the hospital such as Child Life Services at Nemours do a wonderful job engaging with families and activating minds. Our goal is to support groups such as Child Life, filling in gaps with our time, experiences, meals, games, activities, apps, and more.  Health, well being, and recovery can be influenced by attitude and outlook. Ultimately we want children and families to strive and thrive while spending extended time in the hospital.

Our Team

Todd Handler

President

With nearly 2 decades of experience in business and thousands of colleagues, partners, and working relationships, I was truly inspired by the team at Nemours during our 3+ years there.  Their effort, thoughtfulness, and attention has instilled my and Sun Rae's enthusiasm for supporting pediatric care. I look forward to not just giving back, but also helping these wonderful teams and organizations evolve and improve - all while supporting the most important pieces of the puzzle, the children and their families.

Secretary

After bringing Olivia (our Foundation's namesake) home from the hospital as her private duty nurse when she was 8 months old, I quickly fell in love with and cared for her as if she were my own.  She brightened the day of every person with whom she came into contact.  Olivia had a huge heart and she will always have a piece of mine.  I aim to help the foundation bring hope and love to families during their most difficult times.

Treasurer

I look to bring a unique perspective to Sun Rae with my nearly 20 years experience in early education and marketing. As the father of 2, I also know first hand the challenges, time, and effort required to engage with and provide rewarding activities for children. As well as the satisfaction and joy from those activities. I am looking forward to seeing the impact we can have here at Sun Rae, and the lives we can affect in a positive way.

We met so many passionate staff and families when our daughter stayed at Nemours.  I look forward to giving back in a meaningful way to help other families through their hospital journey.  With over 10 years of secondary teaching experience, I not only want to help the youngest patients, but also want to remember to include older kids in our efforts.
